I’ve been meaning to write this article for a while, and will try and keep it as short as possible. I wanted to talk briefly about what the day of judgment will be like. Now specifically when I am referring to the day of judgement I am referring to the events spoken of at the end of Revelations, respectively – a future date when the Kingdoms of the heavens and the earth become one and the dead are raised to life, and every man is judged according to his works and rewarded based on what he has done.
There are actually many other manifestations of judgement, and days of judgement. For example, a day of judgement can manifest when someone is in court for a crime, and the judge makes a declaration that puts a criminal in prison, or sets him free. A day of judgement can manifest as a city being destroyed, an earthquake, or a natural disaster that wipes out a big section or all of a civilization, or for example, when Jerusalem was destroyed by Titus in 70 A.D. – you can say that this was also in a manner a “Day of Judgement”. So specifically, I am referring to the ultimate day, the last judgement, the day when the dead are raised. Let me show you some verses:
Revelation 20:11-15 (NIV):
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Somewhat, this is an event that is both beautiful and terrible. I think that fear of the day of judgement over the millennia has kept many people in line. Today, I am not certain how many people even believe an event like this has ever happened. I remember listening to a Pastor/Rabbi talking about this, and the way he described God coming is that he is so powerful that when he comes, the galaxies and stars are fleeing and they cannot even stand in his presence. Imagine something quite glorious, terrible, and wonderful.
Judgement is reflected in a lot of scripture in the new and old testaments, and I’m not going to get into all of the scriptures on it. Basically I want to describe it the way that I see the events happening, and how it will actually play out. I’ll probably post a bunch of reference scriptures below. I’ve had a lot of sorts of visions about the day of judgement, as it is an important day in the future for everyone.
Specifically, there will be a day when Christ returns to the earth, and everyone who is dead will be brought physically back to life. This is not an event that is spiritual only, or metaphorical. Atoms will be reorganized, elements will be changed, bones will be brought together from dust, tendons will reattach, ligaments and blood vessels will form and life will be breathed into the dead to exist in their perfect and eternal state, and as they are reconstructed they will be brought before the throne of God to stand before him, to be judged according to their works and on that day, each man will be rewarded for what he has done, or not done.
First of all, is that even possible?
I think that the problem that a majority of people have with the idea of resurrection, is that it sounds so out there. “Yeah right” they might say. “So the graves are going to open, like a movie, and everyone is going to be brought in tunnels of light to stand in front of a being that is so powerful that the galaxies are fleeing from him? Yeah, whatever.”
Although it is not the subject of this article, I have thought about this and from a very technical perspective, resurrection is absolutely possible. In this article, I’m not going to say “this is how this works exactly” or anything like that, but briefly, let me describe to you how something like this could happen.
Let’s say that the universe is built in a way that all knowledge is either stored somehow, or that time exists in a way that all times exist simultaneously, flowing from energy that exists in a sort of eternal fashion. All you would have to do would be to have super intelligent technology that could reach across various times, tap into the information that is stored in the universe, and reconstruct the exact nature of someone who had lived before, while at the same time upgrading them. People who do not believe this is possible are in a serious deficit of imagination, and as Albert Einstein once said “imagination is more important than science.”
Also, remember that the laws that we are living inside of speaking of the universe emerged at the time the big bang happened. All you would need to do in order to change the laws of the universe, is find a way to recreate the conditions that were existing around the time of the big bang when the laws of reality formed. If you think this is not possible, open your mind up a little bit. Reality can absolutely be rewritten and I have described how at many points of this blog. The laws of physics that exist in the known universe have only existed from the big bang and before that, these laws were made up by the creator of the universe. Therefore new laws can be made up, and what is corruptible can become incorruptible by recreating the conditions that manifested the universe in the first place.
People who do not believe in God are acting somewhat ignorant – remember that.
Ok, on to what judgement is actually like:
One time, I had a spiritual awakening. It was May 20th, 2017 and I was in Puerto Rico. I had a series of realizations that stretched across my entire life, and as I have mentioned before—many lifetimes of being born and dying, repeating the same cycles again and again. My awareness was heightened on this day in such a way as to where I had the ability to perceive every action I had ever taken at once, seeing how actions led to reactions, that led to more actions and reactions, and how this sum total of events had created every experience in my life, and that 100% of my life was caused by me. I was weeping and weeping, tears streaming down the sides of my face, tapping my right temple with two fingers lying on my bed, saying “I caused it… I caused it… I caused all of it.”
In life, we only have the ability to blame others for things that happen to us because we cannot see the entire chain of events that happen to lead us to where we are now. If we can see all of it, any sort of blame is impossible. For me, this is somewhat difficult at times, as I lost so much in my life and at times have been in great pain – and I imagine the same is for you. However, the bad and the good in my life, and all things leading up to them were caused by me, and me alone. Having this fundamental realization is important to the progress that we need to create in our lives – to realize that we are responsible for everything that happens, both good and bad.
When I had my awakening, I was able to simultaneously perceive actions and reactions across all of these decisions, actions, and reactions of both myself and others at once – to see first hand how I was affecting everything, and how it all had been brought into being by me alone.
This is how the day of judgement is like, but on a much higher level. There will be no thought, no action, no word, no emotion, conscious and unconscious that is not brought to light and weighed exactly as it is. You will see it laid bare, both things that are in your awareness and things that are not. Both things that are on the surface, and things that are buried deep within will come in front of you and everything will be weighed.
Let me give you two examples.
Example #1: There once was a man who was out on the street walking. He saw a stranger coming up to him and at the time, was not in a very good mood. The stranger came and asked him for a small amount of change so he could buy some food. Thinking that the stranger was simply lazy, he said in an angry voice “go work, you stupid piece of shit.” The stranger left, weeping and that night cried himself to sleep. After that moment, he started to feel like a piece of shit, and kept replaying the event in his mind. The actions led to a series of reactions, and the homeless man got caught in addictions to hide his pain, and eventually died on the streets, miserable and alone.
The man on the day of judgement will see what he did, and the whole story in between. He will see how he implanted a thought in someone’s mind that haunted them for years, and how his hatred and anger was transferred into the mind of another and bit by bit, broke down the self image of someone. He will see a chain of events unfold in front of him of both what happened, and what would have happened if he would have acted in love and forgiveness instead, and he will see how in bringing darkness into the world, he has actually brought darkness to himself, and how in affecting others he had affected us all, and he will be weeping, and weeping, and weeping and Christ will say to him: “I was an hungered, and you fed me not. I was alone, and you hated me. I asked you for help, and you denied me.” And the man will weep and weep as he says “I caused it, I’m so, so incredibly sorry” and his reward will be reduced accordingly.
Every detail, every moment, every thought, every action, every desire both good and bad will all stand in front of you and every moment weighed – nothing will be able to escape from the presence of the one from before which, the heaven and the earth fled away.
Example #2: There once was a certain woman who was filled with anger and resentment towards her husband, who had hurt her deeply. In hatred and rage, she sought out to get revenge against him and in her heart, she conceived evil. One day, weeping bitterly and in pain, she cried out to God, and instead of going to act against him, in tears she said “God, please forgive him like you forgave me” and from that moment on, her energy changed, and she decided that no matter what happens, that she is going to be a beacon of light in her home, and that she would do whatever it takes to heal herself, and forgive. Instead of seeking vengeance, she sought healing and became a light so bright that the husband who had hurt her changed from her overpowering love and from her love, he was able to step into the power that he was destined for, and became a beacon of light and healing to those around him.
The woman will stand and see the same moment, and see how she made a decision to walk in love, and walk in forgiveness, and she will see the actions and reactions and how they repeated, and how the world was changed throughout generations, and how one person who felt love began giving love, and all of the decisions were changed. And her creator will look at her and say “well done, my beautiful daughter. I needed forgiveness, and you forgave me. I needed love, and you loved me. I needed life, and you gave it to me, and I will give you forgiveness, and love, and life multiplied and compounded, forever and ever and ever.” And from her actions, she will be rewarded, and she will be compounded, and bathed in the glory of creation. She will also be able to see what would have happened if she had acted out in the evil which her heart conceived, and she will weep and weep and weep and say “we did it together! We did it together!! We did it together!!!”
As you can see, what is presented above are two very different moments – one in pain, one in glory, both in self realization – and in both there is no escape from the actions we take. Many times, in preaching salvation Christianity has misunderstood judgement. Some of the reason for this is because people are mixing up “salvation” for “reward” which are actually two different things (this seems very obvious but people do not talk about it in general) if it were not so, the Son of God would not have said “in my Father’s house there are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you.” There are many different kinds of rewards, and if it were not so, the prophet Daniel would not have said “There will be a time of distress such as not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone who’s name is found written in the book—will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”
As you can see, the outcome is very different – everlasting shame and contempt on one hand, and others to life. Some will shine like the stars forever and ever. If people got the same reward, Jesus would not have said:
“Do not think that I am come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practises and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
There we see in the kingdom of heaven there is the “least” and there is the “greatest” and also, that both the “least and the greatest” are in the kingdom of heaven. There you have the manifestation of variant rewards – so “obviously” salvation and reward are two separate things. It is entirely unable to be argued with if someone believes the words of the prophets, apostles, and Christ.
So imagine the scenario above playing out for every thought, every word, and every action that has ever been taken over the course of your life. Everything brought before you and laid completely bare, a light shined on all of it. 100% of everything you have done is in front of you, both good and bad. You are able to see every lie that you have ever told, and every white lie you ever even thought. Every deception you ever enacted, and every good word you have ever spoken. Every positive chain of events that emerged from you, and every negative chain of events, and how it is all tied together.
Imagine that through all of this, since you can see it plainly, you simply know what you actually deserve as a reward and exactly what must happen to you, either good or bad. Imagine the times when you are ashamed, and the times when you shine like the brightness of the sun. Imagine being unable to escape from reward and punishment, unable to lie about what you have done because it is plain, and in front of you. Many people on that day, weeping and knowing what they have done will beg for forgiveness, but the time will have passed as they will plainly see that they had many opportunities before that moment to beg for forgiveness and they hardened their hearts, and refused to change.
How will you feel on that day, based on the life that you are leading now, and based on what you have done so far? Is the sum total of your actions in the world equating to “reward”? Or is it aiming at “shame and contempt”? Wherever you are, and perhaps you have both (like us all, for if we say we are without sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us) perhaps it is time to create positive karma in the world, and have positive actions that lead ourselves and others to walking in more life and beauty. Imagine two people, both in their own way powerful and how they will fair on that day – take Mother Theresa, and Hitler.
Both had influence, and both had power. Who will be ashamed, and who will shine like the brightness of the sun? Imagine Hitler being able to see all of the deaths that he caused, feel all of the people being tortured because of him, experiencing the pain and suffering and the war that played out because of his pride and arrogance. Then imagine Mother Theresa feeling the body of a starving child having his first meal in a week because like an angel, she walked down the streets feeding the children – imagine that every meal is felt, that every person who felt loved, she feels the love that they felt and her creator weeping as they both watch the influence that was felt throughout all time from her simply deciding to live a better way. Imagine Jesus as he says to her: “I was hungry, and you fed me! I was naked, and you clothed me!! I needed rest, and you invited me into your house!!!” and then she sees that because she loved others, they loved others, and because she believed in others, they believed in others, and it compounded, and even after she passed away, people still talked about it, and she can see (all at once) all the people who ever even read this blog post, and every story ever written about her, and as she does, she is weeping in joy and seeing the light in others that came from her light, saying “we did it together! We did it together!! We did it together!!!”
Same day, two different people. What will your day of judgement be like? Now you might be thinking “that’s pretty detailed. Seems like I will be there for a thousand years.” Nope, all of this will happen in one day, and that’s it, for everyone that has ever lived on the earth. Time will elongate, intelligence and awareness will expand, and everything that you have ever done will be laid bare in front of you, and in front of everyone else, and we will experience it together and everyone will be rewarded according to his works.
This is something I think about a lot, but sometimes I think, that I do not think about it enough. One of the 613 mitzvot is to “fear God” (Deuteronomy 10:20) and yet another is to “love God” (Deuteronomy 6:5 I think), I think taking both simultaneous actions is a good thing, as if we are doing evil to others, we must understand that the evil we are co creating, or the good that we are manifesting will be there for everyone to see, in plain light, and there will be no escape from the consequences of our actions.
If we have lived a life where we have created much negative karma, then it is time to change by creating very positive karma. If we have created much positive karma, it is time to create even more positive karma. Judgement is not just about law, and just about sin. It is about positive actions, or lack thereof. It is about what we are co creating together. It is about justice being enacted for everything that missed justice in this life. It is about reward for good, and about pain for evil. We must understand that nothing we ever do will escape review, that there is no ability that we have to hide from the Creator.
Even if we do something in this life, and we get away from it, as we hide, it will come back to us at some other time, in some other place. This can be other lives (which does happen) and it can be in this life, or it can be at the day of judgement and eternity afterwards. What is better, to be ashamed at the day of judgement? Or to shine like the sun?
In my life, I have had to forgive people a lot as particularly at points, I have had people very close to me hurt me and in some ways, I do not know anyone that has gone through some of the things I have gone through. Parts of my life have been majestic – standing on stages in front of thousands, making millions of dollars and travelling the world, finding love, having my son, impacting people. Other parts of my life have had incredible pain, and abandonment. At times, I have struggled to forgive others, as for me forgiveness does not come instantly, it takes me work to let go as I’m very emotional. Knowing about what I told you today helps me to forgive others, for a couple of reasons:
Reason #1: If I forgive others, I will be forgiven. If I love others, love will come back to me.
Reason #2: It is not my job to resolve the karma of others. It will resolve on its own and therefore the best I can do is simply love others, and forgive them no matter what they do.
It is also not just about forgiveness and righteousness, it is about doing good. You could keep most of the commandments and do nothing good with your life, but you cannot keep all of them, because two of the commandments are to “love others” and to “love God” both with all your heart, mind, and soul. Those commandments cannot be followed without doing good and according to Jesus, they are the greatest of the two and on these two hang all of the Law and the Prophets.
When everything in your life manifests for love, you cannot help but doing good, and when you do good it will come back to you forever and ever, compounded. Good actually multiplies more than evil as remember that a curse will follow a family line for 3 or 4 generations, but to those that love their creator, they are blessed through thousands of generations. This is a fundamental realization that we must have: That it is more powerful to do good than it is to do evil and we should be thankful as if this were not true, evil would win in the end but it is true, in that good is more powerful than evil, and that blessing is more majestic than cursing. Therefore, evil can be overcome with good, and if you have negative karma, it can be overcome by positive because your goodness will count for more than the darkness counts against you.
Remember that heaven rejoices more over one sinner who is brought into changing from his ways than 1,000 righteous people. The reward of the righteous is there, but the rejoicing is there for those who walk in darkness, but they turn to the light. In my life, I have done a lot of good, and I have done a lot of bad. I can admit that. There are times when great darkness has entered my heart.
Recently, I had someone who is very important to me betray me, and I felt more betrayed than I have ever felt in my life. Feeling utterly alone, I wept in darkness, not going what to do but in the end I fell to my knees and I said “Father please forgive them, they don’t know what they have done. Please, please, please forgive them and if you can, give me their karma, and give me their darkness and I will take it from them if they can be free but not as I want, as you want.”
Forgiveness is always more powerful than vengeance. Love is always more important than darkness. Goodness will always make up for a multitude of the mistakes and the bad things that we do. Everything that we do, or don’t do will be accounted for and therefore, perhaps it is time to create some good together.
I was listening to this song over and over again on a Sunday, the day of the first resurrection that occurred nearly 2,000 years ago, and it inspired this blog post:
I can go into a lot of detail on these things. I can talk about what it will look like. About when it will happen (not specific dates, but after such and such an event occurs), but I think leaving this to be simple and powerful is better. If our life is not going to escape review, and not going to escape judgement, why not review it now, and change now?
I talk about righteousness a lot, but the truth is, I am not righteous. I make too many mistakes to claim that. I would prefer to walk towards righteousness and conquer the tendency of darkness that comes at me. I have had much evil that has manifested in my heart and mind at times, and at other times, my actions have been overtaken by evil. There have been times when I have hurt many good people by not being careful, or when I have been angry. There have been other times when I have done much good and inspired many, but the good thing is – there is still time for us both to do good, to change much, and to bring light into the world.
For me, I will serve the Lord. It really is as simple as that to say, but not so simple to do. This last year, I went through many deep struggles. I felt abandoned by friends, by family, by the people I loved the most in my life. I have gone now 3 years without seeing my son Gabriel, who I love with all of my heart and have wanted to see every day of every week, of every month, of every year. 3 ½ years ago, I lost everything I had. I had this person steal from me, and even people who I thought were my best friends just vanish from my life.
Much of it was very hard. And I just decided to forgive everyone, and to start something new and to build a new life. What I know is if I love others, and I love God, that what God wants for me will manifest, and for me, God wants something so great that is difficult for me to even imagine, and I know that he wants the same for you, which is why I am writing this post.
Perhaps in thinking of judgement, you have felt the weight of sin in your life, and you have thought “I cannot escape” or “I truly am unworthy” and the truth is, we are all like this and in many parts of our lives, we will all be ashamed. Throughout our lives, we have lied, we have cheated, stolen things, hurt people but there is hope, and the hope is that there was a man who took the burden of our karma, so that we can be free and start again, and he is saying to you: “Take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
This man’s name is Jesus, and if you will say “I confess that Jesus died for my sins, that he was raised from the dead on the third day, and he sits at the right hand of God” it will initiate a change within, that will lead to a new world without and on the last day you will not escape judgement, but you will be saved. Now, it is time to do good in the world, to change the world around us, and to lead others to the light.
Walking in His love.
P.S. Maybe take out a pen, and ask yourself what is there in your life that you would be ashamed of if it were exposed, and laid bare. Perhaps that is a good place to start changing together now and remember, no matter what it is, you are loved by your creator and anything you have done, no matter how dark can be forgiven. Even if you are doing it again and again, change it again and again and each time, you can be forgiven until the day when you are totally liberated, no matter what it is that you have struggled with. This is the power of grace.
As you can see from the Open Bible, some of the way I describe this is not specifically described in the Bible; however, I do not contradict anything in the Bible here. As a note, I use the word “karma” because it is the best word to describe the spiritual process of action and reaction. This is not a biblical word, but I think that it is the best word for that process (action and reaction) and commonly understood by modern society.
P.P.S. Rather than being terrified by the day of judgement (it can be terrifying) why not look forward to it? Make your life a river of blessing, and it will come back to you.
